WHITNASH SCARECROW TRAIL 2026

17th - 18th OCTOBER 2026

Something new is coming to Whitnash this October!

For the very first time, we’re inviting homes, families, schools, community groups and local businesses across Whitnash to get creative and help us bring the Whitnash Scarecrow Trail to life.

Taking place across Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th October, scarecrows will be popping up around Whitnash for a weekend of family fun, creativity and community spirit.

This year’s theme is…

ONCE UPON A SCARECROW…

Think favourite books, fairy tales, nursery rhymes and storybook characters — then bring them to life… scarecrow style!

Whether you want to build one, follow the trail or do both, we’d love you to get involved in Whitnash’s very first Scarecrow Trail.

WANT TO CREATE A SCARECROW?

Registration is now open! Last call for scarecrows by 28th September.

You don’t need to be an expert scarecrow builder… far from it. The fun is seeing what everyone comes up with.

Choose a character inspired by our ‘Once Upon a Scarecrow’ theme, get creative and display your finished scarecrow ready for the trail weekend.

HOW TO REGISTER

Simply pop into The Plough & Harrow, Whitnash to register your scarecrow.

Entry is just £5 per scarecrow (We kindly ask for the £5 scarecrow entry fee to be paid in cash, so we can keep all Scarecrow Trail funds separate from pub takings. Entry fees will go towards some of the prize fund and the cost of printing the trail maps).

You’ll need to provide:

Your name
– – – – – –
Your address / where your scarecrow will be displayed
– – – – – –
Your scarecrow’s name or title
– – – – – –

Your location will then be added to the official Whitnash Scarecrow Trail Map.

Thanks to GO GO Makers, who are sponsoring our prize fund, there’s also £150 worth of prizes up for grabs!

1st Place – £75
2nd Place – £50
3rd Place – £25

Winners will be announced at The Plough & Harrow Fireworks Night.

SCARECROW RULES

Scarecrows should follow our ‘Once Upon a Scarecrow’ theme — books, fairy tales, nursery rhymes and storybook characters.

Your scarecrow must be suitable for families and children to see.

Scarecrows should be clearly visible from the trail route without visitors needing to enter private property.

Please make sure your scarecrow is securely constructed and safely displayed.

Your scarecrow needs to be in place for 12noon Saturday 17th & until 5pm Sunday 18th October.

Most importantly… have fun with it! Homemade, hilarious, clever, wonky or wonderfully elaborate… we want to see them all.

WANT TO FOLLOW THE TRAIL?

You don’t have to make a scarecrow to join in!

On Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th October 2026, grab an official Whitnash Scarecrow Trail Map and head out to discover the scarecrows hidden around the local area. The trail will start at 12noon on Saturday 17th October and end at 5pm on Sunday 18th October.

HOW IT WORKS

On the trail days, pick up your official Whitnash Scarecrow Trail Map from The Plough & Harrow for £2.50 (cash only) — with all proceeds from trail map sales going directly to Myton Hospice.

Then follow the map around Whitnash, find the scarecrows, guess who they are and choose your favourite!

We kindly ask for cash payment so that Scarecrow Trail funds can be kept separate from pub takings, ensuring every penny from trail map sales goes directly to Myton Hospice.

GUESS THE SCARECROW!

Each scarecrow has been inspired by a book, fairy tale, nursery rhyme or storybook character. Can you work out who, or what, each one is? Write your answers on your trail map as you go!

VOTE FOR YOUR FAVOURITE!

Once you’ve completed the trail, choose your favourite scarecrow and cast your vote. Your votes will decide who takes 1st, 2nd and 3rd place!

DROP OFF YOUR VOTE
Completed voting slips can be dropped into one of our voting points:

• The Plough & Harrow
• The Hodcarrier

Then all that’s left to do is wait and see who wins!
